Living on the ETSCH . . . 

. . . at least from 30th Mai to 1st June 08.
Andrea and me thought quiet a few times about the Etsch bike tour, but it happens not very often that it rains at the SUNVALLY Etsch-Vinschgau.
Meanwhile Luke and Felix are sweating together with grandma/pa at home we arrive to Meran. The first stage to Mals get made by train- the "Vinschgaubahn". So we put on our rainclothes and cycle down the valley to Prad where we check in to a hotel (it is just too wet for the tent).
The second day is mainly dry so we keep on rolling through the apple plants down to Meran again where we pitch our tent. Before the weekend is finished again we take the 1200Hm up to "Meran2000", but it is time now!! We are leaving the beautifull valley with the nice bike path behind us - what a pitty that the weather was not as good as usually in that area.

SALTY STEINBERG TOUR  (21.-23.June 2008)

Just because of the success of the "Dachstein Tour" last year a remake MTB tour in the year 2008 is a must for us. The weather forecast looks great - kick off- start point is our front door. Through "Bad Reichenhall" and the "Jochberg" mountain we get to "Weißenbach".  At 30°C we climb up to the "Kaitlalm" and down again - further to "Seegatterl" where we pitch our tent. The second day is bloody strong-  more than 2000Hm (800 more than at the first day) we will climb. Early in the morning we climb the first 900m up to the "Straubinger Haus" where we enjoy early lunch at a great panorama. Down to the Grossachvalley and up again to the "Winterstelleralm". There we follow the advise of the host and look for a space for our tent just below the top of the Wallerberg. A great panorama at great weather - but a thunderstorm at 1:00a.m. let us know that it can be different too. The last day gets used for our trip back home. Along the Pillersee and the nice Saalach valley we are closing the scenic circle at beautifull weather...

CARNICA -  ALPTOUR 27.-30.June 2008

Hard to believe but after years passed by with out a "transalp" 2008 is one of the years where we should make it again. A few day off road trip by bike across some great mountains. Beside Sen-bock (Tom father) "Clemens" will share the one and other sweat with us. From Innichen (I) we are following more or less the Carnica Traversale to the east. Sometimes on the Italian sometimes on the Austrian side of the craggy mountains we are enjoying each meter in altitude. The sweat gets compensated by fu*&ing good downhills and relaxing evenings at the huts. After four days, about 6500Hm and 233km we are approaching Villach where we go back home to Salzburg by train. Beside the great track and the perfect weather we keep in mind  plenty of mountain pastures with great tasty food.

Time goes by so fast ... another year over .. and the traditional Gaisberg ride of the "Gaisbocks" is there to go. Beautiful weather makes it easy to say "good bye" to a great 2008 and we are looking forward to push the pedals more often in 2009- at least we wish to. After we made it to the top of the MT. Gais, we got our traditional glas of Champagne and a small lunch at the  Schicki-Micki Restaurant . Here we go, searching for some white areas for the downhill slide. Which we found at the ski track.
