preparation:
Now a days it canīt be figured out any more when the exact point of time of the idea really was.  However, it is a fact that there is this kind of virus inside you or not. By the way, planning is not or strength anyway. After adopting our Landy about half a year ago, we lost an other excuse not to do this project. So the searching for excuses and facts to live a ordinary (what is that?) work and family life occupied less and less time. After the financial plan was fixed and signed by the financial minister, we really did not have any excuse why not to start.  So we started with the more detailed planing like

• Landy - fixing the living/sleeping room
• What about Lukeīs school ?
• shipment ?
• what about our jobs ?
• flights (where to?)
• visa ?
• insurance for human and machinery (not easy to get fixed for ten months)
• ......

Looks not too much work, isnīt it ? - but we did not feel boring these days !!

shipment:

12th of June- big day for our Landy. The fifth family member moves to his box. Against our previous information the door clearance of the 20 feet container is 2.96m, and the inner length 5.93m only. So we took out some air of the tires (down to 1.5 bar) and drove in the box till hiting the end.
After some modification to the Landy we were even able to close the container door.
-- ready to take off.
The first part of the trip goes to Hamburg. Caused by a computer fault our travel mobile had a ten days stop over at the Hamburg harbour. The result-> one week hardcore sightseeing in New York with out any personal goods- these are in the Landy. So it should get funny there ;-) 

say good bye party

The 7th of July is the big day for the "PRESSL-party troop" and the 60 (sixty) fighter did it best to make the good bye as hard as possible for us. As it should be at a real Pressl party we had fun till late at night - ahh pardon early in the morning..... okay lets tell the truth, there were some around who did the best till noon. We like to say thanks to the patient neighbours who joined the party or preferred not to be at home at that day/night- all the other know about the advantages of triple glassed windows now. However it was a gorges party with a fine BBQ (12kg meat) and live music (Thanks Stephan). It made us really glad that ALL of you had time to join the party and hope that we see us all together at the come back party. If everything is on time we will be back on the 21st of April- so please mark that Saturday at your time table.

take off 10.July 2006

Faster than expected the 10th of July -  THE 10th of July 2006 came by. The point of time for the final "say good bye" is here. Munich- flight BA655 at 5:35pm - final call. Sure we ask us about the "why" more than ever at this point of time and we would lie when we would say that it was easy for us to say good bye. However there is no way back now- lets go !! One hour delay for the flight to London. The stop over in London is planned with one and a half hour only- so it will get close to make the distance from Terminal I to Terminal IV. Anyway, there was waiting a pick up at the gateway for us already and we got driven in the Ford-Transit bus to our terminal-- what a service. Finally the whole story was not so critical due to the connection flight to JFK was delayed too.
After a seven hour sleep the smooth touch down at JFK. The finger print, the custom clearance and passport control was not as bad as thought before, and the cap ride through Manhattan to our hotel at the "upper west side" was fine too at 2:00am. We got expected at the hotel "Marrakech" already and took our not too bad hotel room.
